At a glance: Mathura to Vrindavan
Mathura and Vrindavan are close, but a short distance can still produce an awkward arrival when the station, temple and vehicle stop are treated as the same place. Decide your first destination in Vrindavan before comparing routes or transport quotes. Then keep the walk beyond the drop-off separate from the drive.
- Checked town-to-town car routes ranged from 11.7 km to 14.6 km. Banke Bihari’s published approximately 14 km reference is specifically to Mathura Junction, not every Mathura address.
- Use thirty to sixty minutes as an initial road-transfer allowance, then check current traffic. It is planning advice rather than a measured journey time or a promise.
- Agree the actual pickup and final vehicle stop, confirm the temple’s darshan window and keep your luggage plan clear. One well-chosen first temple is more useful than several stops squeezed into an arrival transfer.
Mathura to Vrindavan is roughly 12–15 km on the town-to-town car routes checked for this guide. Mathura Junction to Banke Bihari Temple is a different reference: the temple gives about 14 km. Choose your actual station, hotel and first temple before treating any distance as the one for your trip.
How far is Vrindavan from Mathura by road?
The checked Mathura to Vrindavan driving routes measured 11.7 km, 13.7 km and 14.6 km between the named towns. Roughly 12–15 km is therefore a useful town-route reference. It is not a measurement from every Mathura hotel or railway station to every temple, ghat or accommodation in Vrindavan.
Google Maps in Driving mode showed these alternatives on 25 October 2026:
| Route reference | Distance |
|---|---|
| NH44 | 14.6 km |
| Shri Kripalu Ji Maharaj Marg | 13.7 km |
| Mathura–Vrindavan Marg / Bhuteshwar Road | 11.7 km |
The shortest road was not the quickest in that snapshot. Compare the current car route using your real pickup and destination, rather than choosing solely by kilometres. Best-mode results can include two-wheelers; those are not interchangeable with a car journey. A saved map image should identify both the transport mode and the place names.
For a useful comparison, send the same destination pin to each driver. A quote to Prem Mandir and a quote to a vehicle stop near Banke Bihari describe different drop-offs, even when both are called Vrindavan.

How far is Mathura Junction from Banke Bihari Temple?
Banke Bihari’s official visitor page places Mathura Junction, station code MTJ, approximately 14 km from the temple. That station-to-temple reference is useful for arriving pilgrims. Your actual drive still depends on the station exit, permitted vehicle stop and local access, with the final approach to the temple treated separately.
The temple’s own guidance says cars cannot reach its door. Agree where the driver will stop and what remains on foot. “Drop us at Banke Bihari” is less precise than a named meeting or parking point that everyone in your group can identify.
Keep the station code visible on your booking. A result for a town or another railway station is not automatically the service you have reserved. Check date-specific rail details through IRCTC; this article does not establish a current timetable, fare or ticket availability.
If you are travelling with luggage, decide whether to check in first or arrange a suitable way to keep belongings during darshan. Describe any walking assistance needed before selecting the drop-off. A short road distance does not resolve the practical work of moving bags and people through the final approach.
After a train arrival, allow time to leave the platform and find your vehicle. Arrange the pickup against your actual arrival, including any delay, rather than the scheduled arrival alone.
How long should you allow, and which temple comes first?
Start with a thirty-to-sixty-minute road allowance, check current traffic and then add the temple approach and visit. This is our editorial planning buffer, not a measured drive. Choose the first temple by its darshan window and your arrival time, rather than assuming all Vrindavan temples follow the same schedule.
For example, Prem Mandir’s operator page, checked on 25 October 2026, lists opening from 8:30 am to noon and 4:30 pm to 8:30 pm. Arriving in Vrindavan during the midday gap does not make the road journey longer, but it changes what makes sense to do next. Recheck notices for your visit.
Ask for a complete transport quote: pickup, destination, waiting and any additional stop. If choosing a bus or shared ride, confirm the actual arrival point and whether another local transfer is needed. Do not compare a full taxi drop-off with a fare that ends elsewhere.

Frequently asked questions
What is the Mathura to Vrindavan distance?
Roughly 12–15 km on the checked town-to-town car routes. The specific routes measured 11.7–14.6 km; your own pickup and destination can differ.
Is Mathura Junction the same as Mathura town?
The station is a particular destination within the wider Mathura area. Use Mathura Junction, MTJ, when planning a station pickup instead of relying on the town pin.
Can a taxi reach Banke Bihari Temple’s door?
The temple’s official guidance says cars cannot reach the door. Confirm a permitted drop-off and plan the remaining approach with your group.
Is thirty minutes enough for travel and darshan?
Do not treat a road estimate as the whole visit. Allow separately for pickup, traffic, walking, queues and the darshan window at your chosen temple.
Can I use the same distance for the return?
Recheck the actual reverse route and pickup. Our Vrindavan to Mathura guide focuses on departures and station connections.
Settle the first transfer, then enjoy the visit at your own pace. A precise destination is a better starting point than a rushed list of temples.
